January
In math class, our love for multiplication grows enormously! The students in our class practiced memorizing their multiplication facts. From the beginning of the month, the students had a habit of using their fingers to calculate and find the answer to their multiplications. We established a new rule in our class starting the first week of January which the students could not use their fingers to calculate their multiplication except for multiplication facts starting with 9. With our new rule, our students abruptly improved with their mental math!
On Fridays, the students started taking have one digit by one digit multiplication quizzes. Last week, we had a multiplication tournament using a virtual flashcards, and the students were really competitive against each other which was good to see that they strove to memorize their multiplication facts! We also learned how to calculate the 4 digit or more by 1 digit multiplication, and 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. In next month, we will be learning about division!
